For 75 years, Kimball Health Services has proudly delivered compassionate, high-quality care to residents of Western Nebraska, Eastern Wyoming, and Northeastern Colorado. From our humble beginnings with borrowed hospital beds in 1950 to the opening of a new, state-of-the-art facility in 2024, our mission has remained the same: to improve the health and well-being of our community.

In 1944, the citizens of Kimball County voted in favor of a $90,000 bond to build a much-needed county hospital. After years of planning and overcoming post-war supply shortages, Kimball County Hospital officially opened its doors on August 21, 1950. The total construction cost reached $223,000, funded through a combination of local bonds, Federal Hill-Burton Aid, and generous philanthropic support.
Opening day marked a milestone in regional healthcare—eight patients were admitted, and two babies were born within the first 48 hours. The 33-bed facility was touted as one of the most modern in the region, complete with a full maternity ward, pediatric care, and an operating suite with cutting-edge technology.
The hospital’s official dedication ceremony took place on November 5, 1950. It drew over 600 attendees, including a former Kimball physician and U.S. Congressman A.L. Miller, underscoring the significance of this achievement for the community.

As the region evolved, so did Kimball Health Services. The hospital expanded facilities, services, and access to better meet the needs of our growing community.
In response to evolving community needs, the hospital underwent its first major renovation in 1983. Key improvements included:
Kimball Health Services opened its first provider-based Rural Health Clinic in September 1996, expanding access to family medicine. The clinic later moved to the hospital campus in 2002, further integrating outpatient services.
A $2.33 million community bond supported the renovation and expansion project that was completed in May 2002. The project modernized the existing facility, added two new wings, and significantly enhanced the hospital’s capabilities, including:
In 2013, Kimball Health Services purchased and renovated the former West Elementary School to establish the North Campus. This new space housed:
In 2017, we opened a second Rural Health Clinic in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, bringing convenient access to family medicine and extended hours to serve working families across state lines.

After years of planning, Kimball Health Services broke ground on a new 61,000-square-foot hospital facility on May 11, 2022. Despite challenging weather and global supply chain disruptions, construction remained on track and was successfully completed in January 2024.
The new facility officially began serving patients on February 19, 2024. One week later, on February 26, we welcomed the community to celebrate this historic milestone with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter in local healthcare.
Thoughtfully designed with patients, providers, and the community in mind, our new hospital blends advanced technology with modern comforts, underscoring our ongoing commitment to modern, patient-centered care. The facility features:
