Orthopedic Trauma

Orthopedic trauma refers to injuries that affect your musculoskeletal system, including bones, cartilage, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These injuries can result from accidents, falls, sports activities, or violent events.

Common injuries associated with orthopedic trauma include fractures, ligament tears, tendon tears, and joint dislocations. These injuries can happen to anyone at any time, often without warning.

The severity of orthopedic trauma can range from simple fractures to complex, multi-injury cases. Serious injuries often require surgical intervention, while less severe fractures may be managed with techniques such as casting or bracing.

Fracture Management

Fractures are common injuries that can occur at home, during sports activities, or in the workplace. The word "fracture" is the clinical term for a broken bone, and they vary in severity from hairline cracks to compound fractures where the broken bones may penetrate the skin.

Fractures of the ankle, foot, hand, hip, knee, shoulder, or wrist are the most common instances of the injury.

At Kimball Health Services, our dynamic orthopedic team of  Dr. Jeffrey T. MacMillan and Karen Wenner, APRN, DNP, along with our primary care team, treat ailments and trauma affecting muscles, ligaments, bones, and joints.

Spine Fracture

A spinal fracture or a broken back occurs when there is a dislocation or breaking of one or more vertebrae, the building blocks of your spine. The fracture can occur anywhere along the spine, and its impact on your health can vary in severity.

The spine, also known as the backbone, provides structural support to your body and facilitates various body functions. Fractures in the spine can occur due to a range of factors, including trauma, underlying medical conditions, or degenerative changes in bone density.

Spine fractures can have a significant impact on your posture and range of motion. In severe cases, it can lead to potential long-term issues and also cause loss of mobility.

The treatment of spine fractures can vary depending on the severity and type of spine fracture. At Kimball Health Services, we provide prompt diagnosis and medical intervention to address spine fractures. We aim to minimize complications and optimize recovery.

Wound Debridement & Management

Wound debridement and management involve removing dead (necrotic) or infected skin tissue to help a wound heal. This process is vital for promoting healing and preventing infection in the affected area.

Wounds may happen due to traumatic injuries, surgical procedures, or chronic conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. Significant wounds may also lead to tissue death, which can harbor bacteria that may cause more extensive infections.

At Kimball Health Services, our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Wyatt, and our board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. MacMillan, provide advanced and comprehensive treatment for your wounds, including skilled wound debridement and management.
