Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure in which an arthroscope is used to look inside your joint through a minimal incision.Â
An arthroscope is a small fiber-optic video camera attached to a narrow tube which is inserted into the joint through very small incisions. The arthroscope contains a small lens and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint.Â
Light is transmitted through fiber optics to the end of the arthroscope inside the joint. The camera displays the image of the joint on a high-definition video monitor.
The view inside your joint allows the surgeon to examine the area and assess the extent and type of injury. Based on the diagnosis, the surgeon may perform various treatments to repair the joint.Â
